The national demand for primary energy has increased on average by almost 5% in recent years, driven by growth in electricity consumption, which has increased on average by 6% per year between 2003 and 2017 because of the virtual generalization of rural electrification and the dynamism of our economy and especially the policy of major projects in infrastructure, industry, agriculture, tourism, low-income housing, etc.
To meet this growing energy demand, an energy strategy was adopted in 2009, under the High Orientations of His Majesty the King and which is based on the following major goals:
This strategy has been broken down into a roadmap translated into clear and precise plans, programs and projects.
The first phase of the national energy strategy has been successfully completed and has restored the balance between power supply and demand and put in place the legislative, institutional and regulatory reforms needed to support the programs and projects launched as part of the national energy strategy.
