Knowledge of the geology of Morocco is a matter of national sovereignty. The geological knowledge capital that has been accumulated on the national territory, commonly referred to geoscientific infrastructure, is of paramount importance for any economic and social development project.
To deal with the growing complexity of the challenges to be mastered in the implementation of public policies and the demand for induced expertise, geology is led to assume the role of integrator for geoscientific applications offering support for public policies:
Mining and Processing Industry Sector
The enrichment and availability of information on the mineral resources of the country, the location of favorability zones in metallic substances, industrial rocks and building materials, constitutes a major supply issue for the mining sector and processing industry, creating added value and jobs;
Water sector
In a context marked by increasing in the pressure on the quantity and quality of water resources, the development of knowledge of aquifer systems, the study of their vulnerability and the assessment of their contamination, are major issues in sustainable management of groundwater;
Agriculture sector
Similarly, in support of the sustainable soil management policy, as part of the Green Morocco Plan and Regional Agricultural Plans, geological studies are contributing to soil characterization and the identification and quantification of pollutants in soils, sediments and identification of their origin;
Energy Sector
Promoting the sustainable development of the geothermal resources and the storage of energy products is a support to public policy in the development of energy storage capacity and related to the economic sector;
The building and civil engineering sector and land use planning
Geology contributes actively to meet the challenges of development and the promotion of the construction and public works sector, as well as in the implementation of national and regional planning schemes of land use.
Crafts sector
In support of the vision for the development of crafts, the inventory and the development of the local potential geo-materials, contributes to the sustainable management of these resources;
Tourism Sector
The inventory of geological heritage and the research for partnership to promote and enhance the way to make it a lever for economic development both in the scale of the eight tourist areas and at the local level.
The Ministry of Energy, Mining, and Environment has developed a national roadmap for the development of geological and geo-spatial infrastructure for the 2015-2025 period.
Translated into operational action plans and in clear and specific goals, this roadmap takes into account the different expectations and priority orientations of the various structuring projects opened throughout the Kingdom, both in the field of mining research and hydrocarbons than in other areas such as water resources research, spatial planning, etc.
Priority Zones of the National Road Map
Ambitioning to support the will of our Ministry to boost and enhance the mining sector, the National Roadmap has given priority to four promising areas, having a deficit in terms of geological and geothematic infrastructure:

Targets
The implementation of this National Roadmap will result in the targeted areas, by a remarkable development of the coverage rate in geological and geothematic maps, and in some cases a total coverage.
Thus, by 2025, the CADETAF area will be fully covered in geological and geophysical maps, thereby supporting the implementation of the zone's restructuring plan aimed at integrating it into the development process of the national mining sector.
The Oriental Meseta area, which has a promising mineral potential, will be 86% covered in geological maps.
As for the massif of Central Morocco, containing a diversity of mineral resources, it will be completely covered in geological and geophysical maps and 78%it will be covered with geochemical maps.
The Mauritanides area, known for its potential sites containing rare earths, base metals and precious metals, will also be 100% covered in geological maps.
National coverage rates in terms of geoscience mapping will evolve from:
Variation of the rate of geological coverage from 2015 to 2025
Variation of the rate of geophysical coverage from 2015 to 2025
Variation of the rate of geochemical coverage from 2015 to 2025
